Kolkata Warehouse Collapse: Rescue Operations Continue Until Complete Satisfaction, Says Commander Manish Ranjan

Kolkata, June 27: A tragic warehouse roof collapse in Kolkata has resulted in the deaths of 15 individuals. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, with agencies working diligently as there are concerns that more people may still be trapped under the debris. Commander Manish Ranjan of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) provided updates on the rescue efforts.

Commander Ranjan stated that the NDRF team is conducting a thorough scanning of the entire site, ensuring that no one is left trapped beneath the rubble. The area has been divided into approximately 24 sectors, and a top-to-bottom scanning process is being implemented. Most of the area has been inspected, but there are still some dark zones where heavy concrete and debris remain.

Efforts to remove the heavy concrete structures in these dark zones are ongoing. Once this work is completed, the NDRF team will conduct another detailed scan to confirm the absence of any potential victims. Our priority is to ensure that no individual is left trapped under the debris. Regardless of whether any victims are found, the operation will continue until we are fully assured that the entire area is safe and clear.

A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is also present at the site, investigating the causes of the incident. They are working independently, while our main responsibility remains focused on rescue and response operations. The arrangements and infrastructure we have set up at the site are being utilized by the FSL team.

An 11-member team that visited the site for the investigation received detailed information from the NDRF. Commander Ranjan explained the entire operation’s framework, including how the rescue mission was initiated, the phases of the operation, and the deployment of various teams. Following the briefing, the investigation team departed.

When asked about the duration of the rescue operations, Commander Ranjan indicated that setting a timeline is currently not feasible. He emphasized that the operation will continue until we are completely satisfied that the entire area has been searched and no one is trapped in the debris. Our priority is to investigate every possible location.
