New Delhi, June 27: Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, announced on Friday that the new airport terminal in Jodhpur, which has been awaited for over 35 years, is now ready for public use. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the terminal on July 4.
Speaking to the media upon his arrival at the airport in his home district, Shekhawat emphasized that Jodhpur Airport serves as a vital air connectivity hub, not just for the city but for the entire western Rajasthan region.
He noted that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India’s rapidly growing economy has led to a significant increase in air travel. “People who once could not even imagine flying are now traveling by air,” he remarked.
Due to the rising number of passengers, the existing terminal was under considerable pressure, making the need for a new, modern terminal evident.
Shekhawat expressed that this long-awaited dream is finally coming true. The technical approval process for the terminal is in its final stages, and an inspection committee is currently on-site.
He assured that all formalities would be completed by Friday evening or, at the latest, by Saturday, allowing for the final inspection as scheduled.
The Union Minister stated that starting July 4, residents of Jodhpur and western Rajasthan will benefit from enhanced air travel facilities through the modern terminal. This new facility will not only meet the growing demands of the region but will also significantly boost tourism, business, and investment.
Earlier, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma announced that on July 4, Prime Minister Modi would also present a major infrastructure project in Jaipur, strengthening the city’s transport system.
The Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project will be developed at a cost of approximately ₹13,000 crore, with the foundation stone being laid by the Prime Minister on the same day.
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Pachpadra Refinery in Barmer, Rajasthan, which was initially scheduled to open on April 21 but was postponed due to a fire incident on April 20.
With the inauguration of the refinery, the foundation stone for the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 will also be laid.
In preparation for the Prime Minister’s visit, the Chief Minister held a high-level meeting to discuss the arrangements for the refinery, metro project, and other events. He also instructed officials to organize a ceremony for distributing appointment letters to selected youth for government jobs.
