Peaceful Observance of Muharram in Gujarat Amidst Tight Security

Ahmedabad, June 27: Muharram was observed peacefully in Gujarat on Friday. Traditional Tazia processions took place in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and several other districts under strict security measures.

In Ahmedabad, Tazia processions followed designated routes in the old city. A significant police presence was deployed, and traffic adjustments were made in various areas.

Sensitive locations were barricaded. Surveillance was maintained using CCTV cameras and drones to monitor the crowd and ensure safety.

In Surat, Tazia processions were organized systematically from predetermined locations. Organizers adhered to all guidelines related to the procession routes and Tazia.

Over 7,000 security personnel were deployed across the city. Additionally, every activity was monitored through drones and CCTV cameras.

Vadodara and Rajkot also witnessed peaceful Muharram processions. Extra police forces were stationed in sensitive areas and at major intersections. Senior police officials were present on-site to oversee security arrangements.

Prior to Muharram, the Gujarat police implemented a comprehensive security plan across the state.

According to official information, 919 sensitive locations were identified statewide for special monitoring, risk assessment, and precautionary security measures.

Earlier this week, a high-level review meeting was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) G.S. Malik at the police headquarters. All police commissioners, range IGs, and district superintendents participated virtually to assess preparations.

During the meeting, officials were instructed to gather intelligence, increase patrols in sensitive areas, and ensure better coordination for security along procession routes.

The DGP directed districts to exercise special vigilance in areas where incidents occurred during previous Muharram observances. Continuous monitoring using technical resources was also emphasized.

As part of the security arrangements, the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), local police, and Rapid Response Teams were deployed at critical locations.

According to officials, the peaceful conduct of Muharram processions across Gujarat without any major incidents was attributed to improved coordination among police, organizers, and community representatives.
