Kolkata, June 16: Humayun Kabir, the leader of the Aam Janata Uday Party (AJEYUP), stated on Tuesday that if the 20 former MPs of the Trinamool Congress had enough courage, they should resign from the Lok Sabha and let the public decide their future through elections.
Kabir’s remarks came after the announcement on Sunday that these 20 rebel MPs would join the National Citizens Party of India (NCPI), a political party with minimal presence. The rebel MPs submitted an official request to the Lok Sabha Speaker regarding this decision.
Speaking to reporters, Kabir emphasized that the 20 MPs who have come together are raising issues and speaking against the top leadership of the Trinamool Congress. He challenged them to resign from the party under whose symbol they were elected, allowing the public to determine their political fate through new elections.
In response to a question about MPs Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Kalyan Banerjee, Kabir noted that both leaders were elected under the same party symbol. He questioned their motives for raising issues now and for writing to the Speaker.
Kabir mentioned that he is not a member of Parliament, so he prefers not to comment extensively on parliamentary matters. However, he believes that the public should be allowed to judge the validity of the MPs’ claims.
He criticized Ghosh and others for their absence over the past two months, stating that such deception and dishonesty should not occur in politics, warning that their careers would suffer as a result.
On the controversy surrounding donations for the Ram Temple, Kabir asserted that it is the devotees’ money and called for an investigation and appropriate action.
Regarding Mamata Banerjee’s potential candidacy, Kabir stated that the former Chief Minister must decide if she wants to run. He offered his support if she seeks it, promising to do everything possible for her victory if she contests from Rejendranagar. He also assured that he would not field a candidate against her if she runs from Bashirhat and requests his backing.
