Doha, June 23: A tragic incident at the Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar has resulted in the deaths of 12 Indian nationals. The Indian Embassy in Doha has confirmed the news and expressed condolences to the affected families.
Officials from the Indian Embassy took to social media platform ‘X’ to announce, “Twelve Indian nationals have unfortunately lost their lives in the Ras Laffan Industrial City accident that occurred on Sunday night. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased during this difficult time and pray for the peace of the departed souls.”
Authorities have reported that all injured individuals are currently in stable condition and receiving appropriate medical care. The embassy is in continuous contact with Qatari officials and is working to provide all possible assistance to the affected Indian nationals and their families, including arrangements for the swift repatriation of the deceased’s bodies to India.
On Sunday night, an explosion occurred in one of the world’s most significant energy hubs, the Ras Laffan Industrial Area. This explosion took place while efforts were underway to resume operations at the facility. Following the incident, a massive fire broke out at the Barzan gas supply facility, prompting emergency response teams to arrive promptly at the scene.
Qatar Energy, the state-owned company, confirmed the incident, stating that the explosion occurred while work was being done to restart some sections of the export terminal. According to the company, the blast and subsequent fire at the Barzan gas supply facility happened during this operational activity.
The Barzan facility is a crucial part of Qatar’s gas infrastructure, with a production capacity of approximately 1.4 billion standard cubic feet per day. Its output primarily supports domestic electricity generation and desalination plants, which provide water supply in this arid Gulf nation.
