Rainfall in 15 Cities Including Jaipur; Over 5 Inches Recorded in Banswara’s Sajjangarh

Jaipur, 28 August (Kiran News): The spell of rain continues across Rajasthan, with moderate to heavy rainfall recorded in about 15 cities on Thursday. Banswara’s Sajjangarh received the highest, with 135 mm (over 5 inches) of rain. Jhalawar’s Dam reported 110 mm rainfall.

In Salumber’s Jhallara area, a teacher going to school was swept away along with his bike while crossing a river on Thursday morning. In Bhilwara’s Badliyas region, two girls drowned when the water level of the river suddenly rose while they were bathing. Due to a heavy rain alert, schools in Jodhpur remained closed on Thursday. Jaipur witnessed scattered showers throughout the day.

Rainfall Recorded in Multiple Districts

According to the Meteorological Department, light to heavy rain was recorded in Vanasthali, Jaipur, Sikar, Kota, Udaipur, Churu, Dungarpur, Banswara, Bundi, Jhalawar, Bhilwara, Dausa, Dholpur, Hanumangarh, Sawai Madhopur, Pratapgarh and other places. Jaipur Meteorological Centre Director Radheshyam Sharma said that a low-pressure area is active over southern Odisha and nearby Chhattisgarh, leading to rain in eastern Rajasthan for the next week. Southern Rajasthan may see moderate to heavy rainfall in some places, especially from 30 August onwards, including Kota and Udaipur divisions. Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions may experience moderate to heavy showers between 29 and 31 August. Rainfall activity is expected to continue across most of the state, except border areas, in the first week of September. On Wednesday, the highest rainfall in the state was recorded at Veja in Dungarpur, with 90 mm.

Bisalpur Dam Gates Opened

On Thursday, four gates of the Bisalpur Dam were opened by 1 meter each, releasing 24,040 cusecs of water. Water inflow into the dam remains steady, with the Triveni river’s water level at 3.70 meters.
