India and Russia Strengthen Judicial Cooperation and Coordination on Global Platforms

New Delhi, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : India and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral judicial cooperation and enhancing coordination on international platforms. This agreement was reached during discussions between India’s Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Russia’s Chief Justice Igor Krasnov on the sidelines of the BRICS Chief Justices Forum held in New Delhi.

According to a statement from the Russian embassy in India, the meeting took place on September 4, where the heads of the two nations’ highest judicial institutions agreed to continue efforts to coordinate on international matters and reinforce previously signed agreements.

Krasnov emphasized that the cooperation between India and Russia is bolstered by the “warm personal and friendly relations” between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which are based on the principles of a special and privileged strategic partnership.

During the meeting, both parties praised a previously signed memorandum of understanding (MoU). The Russian side also presented India with a draft program for judicial cooperation for the next two years, which includes several mutually beneficial initiatives.

Krasnov arrived in New Delhi to participate in the BRICS Chief Justices Forum, where he was welcomed by Russia’s ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, and other officials at the airport. Throughout his visit, Krasnov is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with judicial leaders from BRICS nations, aimed at strengthening legal and judicial collaboration. The forum will also feature discussions on the use of AI in the judicial system.

The Supreme Court of India is hosting the BRICS Chief Justices Forum, which began on September 4 and will continue until September 6. Chief Justices and senior judicial officials from BRICS member countries and partner nations are participating in the event, which addresses contemporary issues related to justice delivery, international dispute resolution, technology, and sustainable development.
