Rahul Roy’s Rapid Rise and Fall After Signing 47 Films in 11 Days

Mumbai: Rahul Roy captured the hearts of many with his unique hairstyle, innocent face, and lover-boy image. His debut film, Aashiqui, became a blockbuster in the 1990s, running continuously in cinemas for six months. Despite this massive success, Rahul Roy now works mainly in low-budget films to sustain his career.

Born on February 9, Rahul started his career with Mahesh Bhatt’s Aashiqui, for which he was paid 30,000 rupees. Interestingly, the female lead, Anu Aggarwal, earned more than him. The film’s songs became immensely popular, selling record-breaking album numbers in the market. At that time, Rahul’s craze among audiences even surpassed the popularity of stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan.

However, fate took a turn when, riding the high of his success, Rahul Roy hastily signed 47 films within just 11 days. As these films entered production, most failed at the box office. Following his initial hit, Rahul’s career was flooded with flops such as Gajab Tamasha, Sapne Sajna Ke, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi, Gumrah, Naseeb, Dilwale Kabhi Na Hare, and Barish.

While his charming looks and stylish hair gave him recognition, Rahul lacked strong acting skills, raising doubts about his ability to carry films alone. His popularity declined as rapidly as it had risen. Amidst these setbacks, he also faced health problems, gradually disappearing from the mainstream film industry.

In later years, Rahul appeared in several small projects. A brain stroke suffered during shooting in 2020 changed his life drastically, forcing him to spend years in hospital and struggle with recovery. Rahul Roy also tried his luck on the reality show Bigg Boss and currently appears mostly in low-budget films. His latest release, Agar, came out in October last year. Besides films, he participates in weddings and functions to support himself.
