Rahul Gandhi Challenges Parliamentary Protocol on Ladakh Dispute

New Delhi, February 3: In a heated session of the Lok Sabha, Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi raised concerns regarding the Ladakh border dispute. He criticized the chair’s repeated insistence on presenting only “authentic sources” during discussions.

The Lok Sabha witnessed intense debates as opposition members accused the central government of misleading the house on the India-China issue. Gandhi referenced an unpublished article related to former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane’s book while addressing the Ladakh standoff. Despite the chair’s ruling against citing news articles or magazine pieces, Gandhi remained adamant about discussing the matter.

He asserted that he was being denied the opportunity to speak in the house. “As the leader of the opposition, I do not need anyone’s permission to address these issues,” he stated.

Gandhi expressed his objection to the term “permission,” emphasizing that he should not require approval to speak. “I am the leader of the opposition, and I object to this,” he added.

Opposition members continued to protest the chair’s decisions, demanding that the leader be allowed to speak on the issue. Gandhi remarked, “The President’s address outlined the path India must take. Currently, the main issue on the international stage is the conflict between China and the USA. This is a critical part of our President’s address and our budget. I want to make a statement about the events between China and India and how our Prime Minister reacted. Why am I being stopped?”

He highlighted that there was a confrontation in Eastern Ladakh, resulting in casualties among Indian soldiers. However, he was interrupted again by the treasury benches.

The chair noted that he had repeatedly requested the opposition leader to speak on the President’s address before calling on the next speaker, Naresh Uttam Patel from the Samajwadi Party. Patel declined to speak, leading the chair to call on other opposition speakers, all of whom also refused.

Amidst ongoing shouting and chaos, TDP MP G.M. Harish Balayogi stood to speak on the President’s address. However, as the uproar continued, the house was adjourned until 3:00 PM.
