Punjabs Paper Leak Scandal and Police Brutality Against Dalits Criticized by Bikram Majithia

Chandigarh, August 1: Senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia from the Shiromani Akali Dal has launched a verbal attack on the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab. He criticized the administration for the recent paper leaks in NEET and other recruitment exams, as well as the police brutality against Dalits. Majithia emphasized that issues of merit and transparency have escalated beyond Delhi and are now a serious concern in Punjab.

In an interview, Majithia stated, “There are two critical issues at hand. As you know, the paper leak scandal surrounding NEET has become a significant national issue. It is no longer confined to protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, nor is it merely a political matter. This is about merit, transparency, and accountability. The most deserving candidates—those who earn their positions based on merit—should be the ones to secure jobs. When the right person is chosen for the right position, it ultimately benefits the public.”

He accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party of dishonesty, saying, “While in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal made claims, but who truly understands Punjab’s reality? The Mann government has falsely stated that there have been no paper leaks in Punjab over the past 4.5 years. However, they previously posted about a paper leak in 2023. How can they lie in front of national media?”

Majithia referred to recent recruitments in Punjab, highlighting ongoing issues with paper leaks and cheating. He mentioned the Punjab Group ‘B’ recruitment exam held on December 21, 2025, which saw nearly 100,000 candidates. The Vigilance Bureau is currently investigating allegations of paper leaks and cheating. He pointed out the ongoing protests regarding the 2026 Pharmacy recruitment exam, which involved around 7,000 candidates. The government claims it was merely a cheating issue. Yet, questions arise about how cheating occurred, given that only 200-300 candidates were present at each exam center. Allegations suggest that Bluetooth devices were used to send questions outside, where they were solved and answers sent back to candidates.

Majithia insisted that if the government is genuinely transparent, these matters should be investigated under the supervision of the CBI or High Court to ensure justice for the guilty and restore students’ trust.

He also raised the issue of police brutality against sanitation workers in Barnala. He stated that the Akali Dal would take to the streets to fight for justice for the victims. The police action against Dalits is a serious matter. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has taken note of this incident and summoned Punjab’s DGP. He questioned why such actions occurred, stating that sanitation workers were merely reminding Arvind Kejriwal of the guarantees he had made. He promised that temporary workers would be regularized and provided with permanent jobs.

Majithia alleged that when a woman was peacefully protesting and demanding her rights in Barnala, the police resorted to force. He remarked, “No male police constable has the right to use force against her. Why was a DSP seen striking women with a baton? This reflects the true nature of your government. Those who came to power on the basis of guarantees are now beating those who question them.”
