Kyiv, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Ukraine continues to face relentless attacks from Russia, with President Volodymyr Zelensky reporting that nearly 500 drones were launched against the country over the weekend. He stated that as Russia has struggled on the battlefield, it has shifted its focus to undermining Ukraine’s economy. Zelensky accused Russian forces of targeting food warehouses, gas stations, pharmaceutical facilities, and passenger trains.
In a post on social media platform X, Zelensky detailed the ongoing drone assaults, indicating that “Shahed” drones were still active in the skies. He emphasized that Russia’s strategy goes beyond military engagements, aiming to destroy all resources that could help civilians endure the hardships of war.
Recent attacks have included strikes on a steel factory owned by an Indian businessman, as well as targeting an American sunflower oil company and a Polish plumbing fittings manufacturer. Zelensky noted that these strikes have also impacted truck parks, ports, shopping malls, and energy infrastructure.
The Ukrainian president argued that Russia seeks to weaken Ukraine’s economy to break its resistance. He stressed the necessity for a robust response to these attacks, urging allied nations to condemn the actions of Russia both morally and politically.
Zelensky highlighted that Russian companies contributing taxes to the military budget, along with oligarchs close to President Putin, must recognize that there should be no safe haven for them while the war continues. He reiterated that sanctions imposed by allied countries since the onset of the conflict aim to prevent Russian leadership from assuring their close associates that they will remain unaffected by the war’s consequences.
He called for the continuation of sanctions to pressure Russian businesses to advocate for an end to the war and to demand an end to Russia’s hostile policies toward neighboring countries and Europe. As Ukraine’s economy becomes a target, Zelensky insisted that now is not the time for Europe to view Russian oligarchs as friends.
He concluded by stating that while Russia seeks to prolong the conflict using every euro and dollar available, creating an environment where Russian companies can operate without feeling the war’s impact is not only morally wrong but also detrimental and dangerous for themselves.
