Tehran, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Iran, Iraq, and Turkey have underscored the necessity of preventing further escalation of tensions in the West Asia region. This issue was prominently discussed during separate phone conversations on Saturday between Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his counterparts from Turkey and Iraq. The Iranian Foreign Ministry released statements regarding these discussions on Sunday morning.
During a conversation between Araghchi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, the two officials addressed the current regional situation. They agreed on the importance of preventing the escalation of tensions and the spread of regional conflicts. Continuous dialogue and diplomatic efforts were deemed essential for maintaining peace and stability in the area.
In a separate call, Araghchi and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed issues pertinent to both nations, regional developments, and ongoing processes. They emphasized the significance of ensuring security and stability in their shared border area and maintaining mutual coordination.
Both leaders also stressed the need for responsible management of regional events and efforts to prevent conflicts from escalating or spreading to other areas.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials announced that Iran and Oman have reached an agreement on new entry and exit routes for the Strait of Hormuz. Both countries plan to inform Gulf nations about the outcome of these discussions at a regional meeting in Muscat on Monday.
According to a source close to the Iranian negotiation team, this agreement followed prolonged technical and diplomatic discussions between Iran and Oman, culminating in a final accord at the end of August.
The new agreement stipulates that the route into the Gulf will be entirely within Iran’s territorial waters, while part of the exit route will also fall within Iranian maritime territory. The source indicated that this route will operate under arrangements established by Iran. Once the new system is implemented, the southern route will be closed, despite U.S. interests in keeping it open.
However, it was clarified that this agreement does not imply that the Strait of Hormuz will be completely opened.
