Vigilance Bureau Arrests Sub-Inspector for Bribery in Aurangabad, Bihar

Patna, August 1: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau has achieved another significant success in its anti-corruption campaign in Bihar. A police sub-inspector was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.

The accused has been identified as Umesh Kumar, who was stationed at the Risiya police station in Aurangabad district. He was arrested on Friday near the Panchayat Bhawan, located behind the Risiya police station.

According to the Vigilance Bureau, this action was taken following a written complaint submitted in Patna by Lakshman Ram, a resident of Ganpat Dua in the Risiya police station area. The complainant and his neighbors had filed cases against each other’s families.

Umesh Kumar was acting as the investigating officer in this matter. The Vigilance Bureau alleges that the sub-inspector demanded ₹50,000 from Lakshman Ram in exchange for removing the names of his two sons from the FIR and dropping some charges.

The complainant also alleged that if the demanded amount was not paid, the officer threatened to add more serious charges to the case.

Following the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau conducted a discreet investigation into the allegations. Officials confirmed the alleged demand for a bribe, leading to the filing of an FIR and the preparation for a trap operation.

A special trap team was formed under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Santosh Kumar from the Vigilance Investigation Bureau in Patna.

According to an official, the complainant handed over ₹50,000 to Umesh Kumar near the Panchayat Bhawan as planned. Vigilance personnel, dressed in plain clothes and stationed nearby, swiftly acted and allegedly arrested the sub-inspector while he was accepting the bribe.

A case has been registered against the accused officer at the Vigilance police station, and he has been brought to Patna for questioning. After completing the necessary legal formalities, Umesh Kumar will be presented in the Special Court (Vigilance) in Patna.
