New Delhi, July 28: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has targeted the BJP, Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal, accusing them of attempting to tarnish the reputation of Punjab and its hardworking youth through false paper leak allegations.
During a press conference on Tuesday, CM Mann stated that his government has successfully provided 69,000 government jobs based solely on merit, without any recommendations, paper leaks, or cash transactions. While visiting Parliament, where he met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, and other MPs, he urged the BJP to stop defaming Punjabis for political gain and instead engage in political battles on relevant issues.
Mann emphasized the importance of dialogue in democracy, stating, “The beauty of democracy lies in people meeting and conversing with one another. Differences in ideology are natural in politics and will always exist, but they should never lead to a divide in the heart.”
Referring to the opposition’s claims regarding paper leaks, he noted, “Our government has completed four and a half years, and during this time, not a single exam paper has been leaked in Punjab.”
He recounted a recent incident during a pharmacy exam where cheating was attempted. The exam started at 11 AM, and by 11:15 AM, officials discovered that a candidate was using a Bluetooth pen to scan the question paper and receiving answers through an earpiece from individuals outside. The Punjab Police acted swiftly, arresting ten candidates along with an eleven-member gang operating from outside, who were subsequently jailed. “Punjab operates on the principle of ‘No Cash, No Favors,’ solely based on merit,” he asserted.
Responding to the opposition’s demand for the health minister’s resignation, Mann clarified that the pharmacy exam falls under the Health Department, not the Education Department. The health minister has already confirmed that no paper leak occurred; it was merely an attempted cheating incident that was promptly addressed, allowing the exam to proceed successfully. “Paper leaks cannot happen in Punjab,” he affirmed.
Attacking the Akali Dal, Mann remarked, “The Akali Dal has lost its significance in Punjab. How much support do they have now? As for the BJP, they should focus on their own issues before protesting outside Parliament.”
He concluded, “I stand before the people having provided 68,855 government jobs entirely based on merit, without taking a single rupee. Fraud and corruption in Punjab recruitment are now a thing of the past. Instead of worrying about the broom, the BJP, Congress, and Akali Dal should first clean up their own houses.”
