Heavy Rain Causes Flood-Like Conditions in Rewa, Over 700 People Relocated to Relief Camps

Rewa, August 21: Authorities reported that continuous rainfall lasting over 15 hours has led to flood-like conditions in several areas of Rewa district. As a result, more than 700 individuals have been relocated to eight relief camps.

The relentless rain over the past 24 hours has caused severe waterlogging in Rewa, submerging numerous roads and disrupting transportation in low-lying areas. The rising water levels around the Beehar River have exacerbated the situation, with reports of similar conditions emerging from rural parts of the district.

However, a decrease in rainfall on Thursday provided some relief, allowing accumulated water to drain from the city and surrounding areas.

In a statement late Thursday, the district administration confirmed that over 700 flood-affected individuals have been moved to eight relief camps established within the Rewa Municipal Corporation area. They are being provided with food and other essential supplies.

The administration also mentioned that drinking water, medicines, and other necessary materials are being supplied to those relocated to the camps. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed alongside district and municipal officials for relief and rescue operations.

Senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla inspected the relief camps set up at TRS College, government schools, and other locations. He interacted with affected individuals to review arrangements for shelter, food, drinking water, and medical assistance. Shukla also inspected several impacted wards and the municipal control room.

He stated that efforts are underway to ensure the safe relocation of those affected by the rain and flooding. “I have instructed officials to ensure the provision of food, drinking water, medicines, and other essentials,” he said.

Shukla directed officials to maintain close monitoring of sensitive areas and to evacuate individuals to safe locations whenever necessary. He also reviewed the coordination between district administration, municipal authorities, and disaster relief teams.

“Our priority is to ensure the safety of the people,” Shukla emphasized. He urged the administration to remain vigilant and provide immediate assistance to all those affected by the flood-like conditions.
