Tejashwi Yadav Criticizes Government, Vows to Prevent Bihar from Becoming a Police State

Patna, August 21: Tejashwi Yadav, the acting president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly, has targeted the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over the state’s law and order situation. He accused the government of rising crime rates and ongoing questions regarding police conduct. Yadav asserted that his party will not allow Bihar to become a “police state” at any cost and will fight for justice for victimized families from the streets to the assembly.

Yadav visited the family of 19-year-old Roshan Yadav, who was allegedly found hanging in Madhubani Jail on August 10. According to jail authorities, Roshan committed suicide within the prison. However, Yadav questioned this claim, suggesting that Roshan may have been murdered, citing multiple injury marks on the deceased’s body.

Tejashwi Yadav stated that Roshan was imprisoned on May 27 under the Arms Act. Although he was later released, he was re-arrested. Yadav alleged that the young man was brutally beaten and tortured in police custody for several days, including being subjected to electric shocks. He emphasized that this is a very serious matter and called for a fair investigation into the entire incident. Yadav’s purpose in meeting the victim’s family was to gather information and demand accountability from the administration. He vowed that the party would take all possible steps to ensure justice for the family.

Yadav remarked, “Bihar is being turned into a police state. The inhumane treatment of a 19-year-old by the police is a serious concern. We will not allow Bihar to become a police state.” He also criticized the Chief Minister and the government regarding the state’s law and order.

He alleged that criminal incidents are continuously occurring in various districts of Bihar, with criminals feeling emboldened. Yadav claimed that the government has completely failed to maintain law and order. Previously, he visited Hajipur, where the late Ramnaresh Rai was shot dead by criminals. Today, the leader of the opposition met with the victim’s family at their residence.

He pointed out that there has been no clear information regarding the arrest of the culprits in several incidents. He demanded that the administration ensure the swift arrest of criminals and provide strict punishment, while also guaranteeing the safety of victimized families. He noted that if information about the arrest of suspects is not made public even days after an incident, it naturally raises questions about the police and administration’s effectiveness.

He stated that providing security to victimized families living in fear should be the government’s primary responsibility. Tejashwi Yadav affirmed that the RJD is continuously fighting for public issues on the streets. He claimed that the party will continue to raise its voice against crime, police actions, and alleged injustices faced by victims. He emphasized that ensuring a safe environment for the people of Bihar is the government’s responsibility, and it cannot evade this duty.
