New Delhi, July 28: In a heated session of the Lok Sabha discussing the Anti-Paper Leak Bill, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a sharp attack on the central government. She accused the administration of suppressing the voices of youth and students, demanding accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the use of force during student protests.
Priyanka Gandhi questioned, “What was the need to use tear gas, baton charges, pellet guns, and even AK-47s against students? Were these students terrorists? Who ordered the use of pellet guns on the youth of this country? Was it the Prime Minister or the Home Minister? They must answer this. It’s not just Congress; the entire nation is seeking answers.”
She recounted her recent visit to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in Delhi to check on a student who was fighting for her life in the ICU after being injured in a police baton charge.
Priyanka Gandhi noted that shortly before her arrival, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and other leaders had also visited the student. She described the mother’s grief, stating, “When I arrived, the mother was extremely distressed and pleaded, ‘Thank you for coming, but I don’t want to meet anyone. I don’t want to talk. Since morning, big leaders have been coming one after another, taking videos. Those responsible for my daughter’s condition should also be here. Why?”
The pain of that mother was evident, and her body was trembling, Priyanka Gandhi remarked.
Continuing her critique, she stated that the central government has consistently weakened all sectors that generate employment. She claimed that the examination system in the country has completely failed.
“In the last ten years, there have been 152 paper leaks affecting millions of students, yet not a single member of the paper leak mafia has been punished,” she added.
Priyanka Gandhi questioned why the government fears the youth of the nation and who granted it the authority to silence students. She urged the government to address serious issues like the use of force against student movements and the failures of the examination system before Parliament and the public.
