
Beijing, August 21: South Korean President Lee Jae-myung met with Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party and Foreign Minister, on Thursday in Seoul.
President Lee expressed his satisfaction with the rapid improvement and development of relations between China and South Korea. He noted a strong trend of increasing bilateral economic and trade cooperation. The understanding of the Chinese people among South Koreans is continuously improving, and there are significant hopes for deepening comprehensive cooperation with China.
Lee emphasized that strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries aligns with their core interests and is crucial for regional peace and stability. He looks forward to participating in the APEC informal summit in Shenzhen this November.
Wang Yi remarked that since taking office, President Lee has made the right choices to restore China-South Korea relations. This year has shown full restoration and positive progress in their relationship, proving that a prudent, practical, and positive policy towards China aligns with South Korea’s interests and the current developmental trends. China is ready to share development opportunities with various countries, especially its neighbors.
Wang expressed hope that South Korea would maintain a friendly policy towards China and seize the opportunity of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year to achieve greater progress in the strategic cooperation partnership between the two nations.
During the visit, Wang Yi also held talks with his counterpart, Cho Hyun, and engaged in strategic discussions with the head of the South Korean National Security Office, Lee Seong-lok.
