New Delhi, June 20: President Droupadi Murmu will present the Padma Awards for 2026 on June 23 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. An official announced on Saturday that among the 65 recipients are former Union Minister Shibu Soren, tennis star Vijay Amritraj, actor Mammootty, and singer Alka Yagnik.
The ceremony, starting at 5 PM, will also see the presence of Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other dignitaries.
During this second civilian awards ceremony, President Murmu will confer two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan, and 56 Padma Shri awards, totaling 65 awards.
Previously, on May 25, during the first civilian awards ceremony, she awarded two Padma Vibhushan, six Padma Bhushan, and 57 Padma Shri awards, also totaling 65.
The Padma Awards are among the highest civilian honors in the country, presented in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. These awards recognize excellence in various fields, including art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, business and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service.
The Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, the Padma Bhushan for high-quality distinguished service, and the Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field.
The announcement of these awards is made annually on Republic Day.
Former Union Minister and founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Shibu Soren, is posthumously honored with the Padma Bhushan. P. Narayanan and Justice (Retd.) K.T. Thomas will receive the Padma Vibhushan for literature and education, and public affairs, respectively.
Other awardees include Padma Bhushan recipients Vijay Amritraj, S.K.M. Mailanandan, Mammootty, Vellapally Natesan, Dattatreyaudu Nori, and Alka Yagnik.
The list of awardees also features two Americans, one Russian, and one Georgian citizen.
Dr. Dattatreyaudu Nori from the USA will receive the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to medicine. Professor Prateek Sharma will be honored with the Padma Shri for his work in medicine.
Lyudmila Khokhlova from Russia has been selected for the Padma Shri in literature and education.
Vladimir Mestvirishvili from Georgia will be posthumously awarded the Padma Shri in sports.
A statement mentioned that Professor Mahendra Nath Roy from West Bengal will receive the Padma Shri for his contributions to science and engineering.
