Kathmandu, August 29: The Nepalese government has escalated rescue operations for individuals trapped in the tunnel of the Trishuli-3 ‘A’ Hydropower Project located in Rasuwa. Efforts have intensified over the past two days, with excavation and debris removal underway since Saturday morning to open the tunnel’s entrance.
The Prime Minister‘s Office of Nepal provided updates via the social media platform X, sharing images that depict the ongoing rescue efforts. Following reports of people being trapped inside the tunnel, priority was given to the rescue operations, deploying a team of security forces to the site to clear the entrance.
The statement detailed the number of personnel involved in the rescue team. It noted that a joint team comprising 82 members, including 62 soldiers from the Nepal Army, has been continuously engaged in the excavation and search operations since Friday night.
The post also highlighted the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions in the area. “Poor weather remains a constant challenge. Difficulties have arisen in reaching the tunnel and clearing debris due to adverse weather conditions,” the statement read.
Additionally, it mentioned the arrival of an Indian rescue team in Trishuli to assist in the operations. The Indian team conducted an initial aerial survey of the Chilime and Langtang areas via helicopter. After assessing the situation, the Indian rescue team will join the ongoing operations as needed, working in coordination with Nepalese officials to reach and safely evacuate those trapped in the tunnel.
