Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : President Droupadi Murmu commended films that emphasize unity and social concerns during the 72nd National Film Awards held in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on September 22, 2026. Among the films recognized were “Article 370,” “Chandu Champion,” “Bhakshak,” and the Santhali film “Angen.”
In her address, Murmu described “Article 370” as a film that sheds light on a “special chapter of nationalism.” She highlighted its portrayal of serious challenges related to national unity and their possible solutions. The film’s entire team received her congratulations for their impactful work.
Yami Gautam, who won the Best Actress award for her performance in “Article 370,” was specifically acknowledged by the President. The film emerged as a key winner at this year’s awards ceremony.
Murmu also congratulated Mammootty, who shared the Best Actor award with Kartik Aaryan. Mammootty was honored for his role in “Brahmayugam,” while Aaryan received recognition for “Chandu Champion.” The President noted that she had the privilege of awarding Mammootty the Padma Bhushan earlier this year.
Discussing “Chandu Champion,” Murmu referenced the life of Indian soldier and Paralympic athlete Murli Kant Petkar, whose inspiring story motivated the film. She shared that Petkar was injured during the 1965 India-Pakistan war but overcame significant challenges to become India’s first gold medalist at the 1972 Paralympic Games. The President praised Aaryan for bringing Petkar’s character to life through his performance.
Murmu also mentioned “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,” which earned Randeep Hooda the Best Director award for a debut film. She described the film as an artistic tribute to Savarkar’s life and congratulated Hooda for this recognition.
In her remarks on “Bhakshak,” Murmu noted that the film addresses critical issues concerning women’s safety. She emphasized the importance of society acknowledging those who fight for the safety of daughters and commended the film’s sensitive portrayal of this pressing subject.
Lastly, the President recognized the Santhali film “Angen,” directed by Ravi Raj Murmu. She stated that the film’s national recognition not only promoted an outstanding piece of cinema but also fostered cultural diversity and social inclusion.
