Kevadia, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : The 72nd National Film Awards took place on September 22, 2026, in Kevadia, Gujarat. President Droupadi Murmu presented awards to actress Yami Gautam for her role in “Article 370” and actor Kartik Aaryan for his performance in “Chandu Champion.”
Kartik Aaryan attended the ceremony with his parents, while Yami Gautam was accompanied by her husband, Aditya Dhar. The Hindi film “Article 370” won the award for Best Feature Film, which was accepted by producer Aditya Dhar. Randeep Hooda received the Best Debut Film Director award for “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.”
The Telugu film “Kalki 2898 AD” was recognized as the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, directed by Nag Ashwin. In other notable awards, Anand L. Rai received the Best Direction (Non-Feature) award for “Statue of Unity: A Symbol of Unity.” The award for Best Telugu Feature Film went to “Committee Kurrolu.”
Mohanlal shared the Best Actor award with Kartik Aaryan for his role in the Malayalam film “Brahmayugam.” Sanjay Mishra was honored as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “Bhakshak.” Veteran actor Anant Nag received the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Manoj Muntashir was awarded Best Lyricist for the song “Jaane Do” from the Hindi film “Maidaan,” while Vijay Ganguly won Best Choreography for “Aaj Ki Raat” from “Stree 2,” featuring Tamannaah Bhatia.
The documentary on the Ramnami community from Chhattisgarh won the award for Best Documentary. The film “Main Nida” was honored as the Best Art/Cultural Film. Manveer Jasrotia received the Best Editing award for the Hindi film “NDA.”
Soundarya Jayachandran was recognized for Best Voice Over for “Little Planet: A Tale of Frogs,” and Sanjeev Srivastava was named Best Film Critic. Director Dinesh Pundalik Bhonsle received the Silver Lotus for Best Garhwali Film for “Dholi.”
The Tamil film “Rayan,” written and directed by Dhanush, was awarded Best Tamil Feature Film. The Best Child Artist awards went to Athish S. Shetty for “Mithya,” Arundev Pothula for “35 Chinna Katha Kadu,” and Riddhiman Banerjee, Tapomoy Deb, and Geetashree Chakraborty for “Onko Ki Kothin.”
Vaikom Vijayalakshmi received the Best Female Playback Singer award for the song “Angu Vana Konilu” from the Malayalam film “ARM.”
During the ceremony, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed gratitude to President Murmu for enhancing the event’s dignity. He thanked the jury for their hard work and emphasized the honor of receiving a National Film Award. He noted the importance of showcasing India’s tourist destinations through future ceremonies.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel remarked on the pride of hosting the National Awards in Kevadia, highlighting cinema as a reflection of society and India’s growing global recognition under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
