Jaipur, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has credited its impressive performance in the recent urban local body elections in Rajasthan to the ‘Bhajanlal Model.’ This assertion was made by party leaders on September 22, 2026, who noted that Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma played an active role at every stage, from candidate surveys to ticket distribution and campaigning.
For the first time, the BJP adopted a roadshow campaign model in these elections, which proved effective in several regions, particularly in Jodhpur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Bikaner, and Udaipur. According to the latest results, the BJP emerged as the largest party in the elections for top positions in Rajasthan’s urban local bodies. Official data shows that out of 301 declared results, the BJP secured control in 197 bodies, while the Congress managed to establish boards in 94.
The BJP highlighted its performance in the Jodhpur division as one of its key successes. Party assessments indicate that BJP-supported candidates won 35 out of 41 urban local bodies in this division, yielding a success rate of 87%. This achievement is particularly significant as Jodhpur is traditionally considered a stronghold of former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
The party attributed its success in this region to meticulous booth-level preparation, organizational synergy, and a focus on local issues. In Pali Municipal Corporation, however, the Congress emerged as the largest party in the councillor elections, winning 29 seats, while the BJP secured 21 and independent candidates took 15. Despite this, BJP candidate Namita Bubakia won the mayoral election with support from outside the party’s councillors.
The mayoral election for the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation is scheduled for September 25. In Bharatpur, independent candidates made a notable impact, winning 36 out of 65 wards and achieving a majority. The BJP won 20 seats, while Congress secured seven. Nevertheless, BJP’s Anuradha Singh was elected mayor unopposed.
The BJP also showcased its performance in the Bharatpur division, which includes the Chief Minister’s home district. According to party assessments, the BJP established boards in 24 out of 32 urban local bodies in this division, while Congress won in seven. In the Ajmer division, the BJP claimed success in 36 out of 52 local bodies, translating to a success rate of approximately 69%.
The Ajmer Municipal Corporation elections drew significant attention. While Congress emerged as the largest party in the councillor elections, BJP’s Anamika Sharma was elected mayor with support from independent candidates. The party also reported strong performances in the Bikaner and Udaipur divisions, winning 24 out of 37 local bodies in Bikaner and 18 out of 28 in Udaipur.
In Kota and Jaipur divisions, the BJP claimed to have gained an edge over Congress, with boards established in 15 out of 28 local bodies in Kota and 48 out of 91 in Jaipur. The mayoral elections for the Jaipur Municipal Corporation are also set for September 25, featuring a contest between BJP’s Sunil Kothari and Congress’s Sunita Mewar.
The BJP attributes its success to a campaign focused on local issues and effective organizational management, with Chief Minister Sharma’s involvement throughout the election process being a key factor. Party leaders view these results as a mandate for the development agenda of the BJP government under Bhajanlal Sharma’s leadership.
State BJP President Madan Rathore stated that the results reflect public support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and the state government’s initiatives. While the BJP emerged as the largest party in local body elections, the results also underscore the significance of independent candidates and smaller parties.
In the councillor elections, the BJP won 4,179 out of 10,235 declared wards, while Congress secured 3,613 and independent candidates won 2,273 wards. The BJP’s overall vote share across the state stood at 35.18%, compared to Congress’s 34.24%, indicating a narrow margin of 0.94 percentage points. In several municipalities, including Pali, Ajmer, Alwar, and Bharatpur, independent candidates played a decisive role, influencing both board formations and mayoral election outcomes.
