Wang Yi Discusses Strengthening China-Germany Relations in Phone Call with German Foreign Minister

Beijing, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in a phone conversation on September 21 with his German counterpart, Johannes Waidfeld. During the call, Wang emphasized the significance of strengthening strategic communication between China and Germany, two of the world’s leading economies and comprehensive strategic partners.

In light of rising unilateralism and anti-globalization sentiments, Wang asserted the need for both nations to enhance mutual trust and deepen practical cooperation. He underscored the importance of sending a positive message that both China and Germany support multilateralism and free trade. This collaboration is expected to boost confidence in the development of China-Germany relations and play a constructive role in the broader China-European Union relationship.

Wang highlighted that reinforcing mutually beneficial cooperation aligns with the interests of both parties and represents the right choice moving forward. He urged both nations to respect the progress made thus far, promote deeper and more practical collaboration, and achieve continuous new milestones.

Wang also reiterated that the One-China principle forms the political foundation of China-Germany relations. He expressed hope that Germany would cherish and strengthen the tradition of mutual trust and friendship, adhere to the One-China policy, and take concrete steps to safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, thus creating favorable conditions for high-level exchanges between the two nations.

Waidfeld responded by acknowledging the positive momentum in China-Germany relations in recent years. He expressed Germany’s eagerness to further enhance high-level exchanges, conduct a new round of intergovernmental consultations, and deepen practical cooperation in economic and trade sectors. Waidfeld reaffirmed Germany’s steadfast commitment to the One-China policy, indicating no changes in this stance.

He also noted that the current international landscape presents new threats and challenges.
