Hong Kong, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : The Youth Economic Development Forum 2026 took place in Hong Kong on September 9, focusing on the themes of “scientific innovation, integration, and long-term journeys.” The event attracted over 300 participants from various sectors across Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Macau, who engaged in discussions about youth development and regional collaboration.
Mai Mei Chuan, head of the Civil Affairs and Youth Affairs Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, emphasized that this year marks the beginning of the national 15th Five-Year Plan. The Hong Kong government is set to release its first Five-Year Plan soon, aimed at aligning with national strategies and establishing a long-term framework for the region’s economic and social development over the next five years.
Chuan highlighted the complementary advantages and coordinated growth between Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Macau, stating that these factors not only reflect the forum’s theme but also provide significant opportunities for youth development.
Wang Xiaohan, deputy director of the General Front Work Department of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, addressed the special responsibilities of the youth from these three regions in the context of national development. She noted that they are not only a driving force for coordinated development but also play a leading role in the modernization of China.
Wang encouraged the youth to view the forum as a fresh start, urging them to strengthen cooperation and communication, optimize their respective advantages, and work collectively towards regional coordinated development. She called on them to contribute their youthful energy to the national rejuvenation and strive for the prosperity of their homeland, the well-being of the people, and a better future for the world.
In line with this, Huang Chia Chi, deputy director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macau Special Administrative Region government, reiterated that this year marks the start of the national 15th Five-Year Plan. Macau’s government released its third Five-Year Plan in August, aligning with the national strategic direction.
Huang expressed optimism that the youth from Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Macau would actively engage, fully unleash their cooperative potential, capitalize on opportunities for industrial integration and development, and achieve mutual benefits and shared success.
The forum was co-organized by the Shanghai Foreign Friendship Association, the Shanghai Youth Federation, and 13 other organizations from Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Macau.
