New Delhi, June 6: Grandmaster R. Praggnanand has made history by becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious Norway Chess tournament. After achieving this milestone, he emphasized the importance of a strong corporate support system in helping athletes perform at their best, expressing gratitude to the Adani Group for their backing.
The 20-year-old player, supported by Adani Sportsline, delivered an impressive performance in Norway. He defeated world number one Magnus Carlsen, reigning world champion Gukesh D. and other chess giants like Alireza Firouzja, Wesley So, and Vincent Keymer. During the tournament, he notably beat Carlsen twice and secured a crucial victory over Gukesh on his way to the title.
In an exclusive interview, he shared how the Adani Group assisted him in navigating the logistical challenges of professional chess.

The Grandmaster noted that this support extends beyond sponsorship; it also provides reassurance during challenging times.
He added, “It feels like ever since they started supporting me, they are always there to help whenever any problem arises. I am truly thankful for all their support. I am pleased to see new corporate companies entering the sports arena and supporting athletes. I believe all players are always grateful for the support they receive from corporates.”
