New Delhi, May 30: Pakistan has been striving to present itself as a strong player on the international stage. However, the reality is that it is actively working to change its image both domestically and globally.
Human rights issues in Pakistan remain a significant concern, drawing repeated attention from the world. Islamabad is engaging with lobbyists worldwide to foster a positive image and connect with influential figures.
Despite the Pakistani government frequently discussing its new relationship with the United States under President Donald Trump, the truth is quite different. Questions are being raised about the treatment of people in Pakistan. Officials state that the country is heavily investing in lobbyists to portray a favorable image. They emphasize that maintaining good relations with top leadership in other countries is not enough; gaining the trust of other decision-makers is equally vital, making image improvement essential.
One official noted that Pakistan initially believed it could enhance its image without the help of pressure groups and lobbyists. However, violations have escalated, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan regions.
The violations occurring in these areas are no longer hidden. The local population has become more vocal, and social media has brought these issues to the forefront. Another official mentioned that these matters are raised at every major event or gathering, leaving Pakistan with no answers.
Earlier this month, Pakistan signed a deal with the American firm Ervin Graves Strategy Group, LLC. This firm will receive $50,000 monthly to change Washington’s perception of Pakistan. It will organize high-level meetings with individuals who have been part of Washington’s power circles.
Officials indicate that Pakistan has previously engaged in similar activities, hiring people for meetings, conferences, and roundtable events focused on altering Islamabad’s image. The goal is to create a positive portrayal of Pakistan while concealing serious violations occurring within the country.
These firms are also concentrating on the Afghanistan issue. Tensions have arisen between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban government, which has refused to comply with Pakistan’s demands.
Pakistan claims, without evidence, that Afghanistan is allowing its territory to be used as a launchpad for terrorist groups. It has accused Afghanistan of supporting the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). However, the Afghan Taliban has consistently denied these allegations.
The role of these pressure groups is to convince the international community of how Afghanistan has become a threat, leading to numerous terrorist attacks on Pakistani soil. These groups will attempt to persuade top leaders and decision-makers in the U.S. about the necessity of controlling Afghanistan and ensuring regional stability.
Observers of Pakistan note that this is a desperate move, as there is hardly a day without reports of significant human rights violations in the country.
Recently, a detailed report from the United Nations Human Rights Committee expressed serious concerns over rising religious intolerance, forced kidnappings, and conversions among Hindu and Christian minorities.
The UN committee also questioned Pakistan’s failure to address increasing attacks and threats against Shia Muslims, Christians, Ahmadis, Hindus, and Sikhs.
Officials state that Pakistan is now entirely under the control of Field Marshal Asim Munir, who faced setbacks during Operation Sindoor.
To make matters worse, the TTP and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) have unleashed terror on Pakistani security forces. People in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are openly criticizing the government for a lack of development and severe human rights violations.
In fact, these individuals have exposed Pakistan’s deception. An official remarked that Munir realizes that both Pakistan and the international community’s image has deteriorated.
Experts predict that in the coming days, several international media outlets may publish articles in support of Pakistan. These pressure groups will also attempt to shift media narratives in favor of Pakistan. Experts suggest that this will occur after discussions with media executives and board members.
One official stated that the decision to spend heavily on such campaigns reflects Pakistan’s dual approach. While it grapples with a severe economic crisis, it still allocates funds for image-enhancing campaigns. The official added that the truth is Islamabad and Munir are desperate and willing to overlook their own people’s grievances to save face.
