Bhubaneswar, August 30: The Odisha government has decided to take strict measures against government employees who fail to provide alimony to their wives or children, even after court orders. From now on, a portion of their salaries will be directly deducted and transferred to the accounts of their spouses and children.
According to a statement released by the Chief Minister‘s Office (CMO) on Sunday, Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi has adopted a tough stance on this issue. During state-level grievance hearings, two to three complaints were consistently reported, where women and children were distressed due to the lack of alimony from government employees.
The government noted that many male employees have not complied with clear court orders to provide financial support to their wives or children. Similar complaints have also been received in divorce-related cases regarding non-payment of alimony.
Taking this matter seriously, the Chief Minister has directed that the amounts determined by the court should be directly deducted from the salaries of the respective employees and transferred to the bank accounts of their wives or children.
The Chief Minister stated, “It is completely unacceptable for a government employee to disregard court orders and commit such injustice against their wives and children.”
Following the Chief Minister’s directives, new guidelines have been issued. The responsibility for these deductions has been assigned to the Departmental Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO). As soon as a court order for alimony payment is received, the DDO will deduct the specified amount from the employee’s monthly salary bill and electronically deposit it into the bank accounts of the spouse and children.
The Chief Minister has also instructed officials to link court-directed alimony cases with the Human Resource Management System (HRMS). This aims to make the process more organized and automated, ensuring timely compliance with judicial orders.
