Kolkata, June 21: The re-examination for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026 was conducted peacefully across West Bengal on Sunday. More than 109,000 candidates participated in the exam, which was held at 218 centers statewide. Nationwide, a total of 2.27 million candidates took the test.
Prominent institutions, including the University of Kolkata and Jadavpur University, served as examination centers. Reports indicated that the number of candidates at several centers was lower compared to the original exam held on May 3.
Many students reported that the Physics section was relatively challenging. Anushka Agarwal, a student from Malda district who took the exam at a center in Kolkata, noted that the question paper was tougher than in the previous exam. Other candidates from Tollygunge and Kidderpore echoed similar sentiments.
On social media, several examinees mentioned that the Biology section was easier, while Physics posed more of a challenge.
In a remarkable instance, a seriously injured student also took the exam with special medical assistance. Srishti Dubey, who suffered multiple rib fractures and lung injuries in a road accident on June 14, was able to sit for the test under medical supervision at a center located in Binodini Girls’ School, South Kolkata. Her father reached out to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, leading to special arrangements by the Ministry of Education.
According to the National Testing Agency (NTA), a separate arrangement was made for Srishti on the ground floor of the examination center. A medical team was present with her during the exam, and an ambulance was stationed outside the center.
On Sunday, coinciding with International Yoga Day, several events were held at key locations in the state, including Rabindra Setu, resulting in traffic restrictions on many roads. However, following NTA’s advice, most candidates arrived at their centers well ahead of time.
The NTA had previously clarified that candidates would only be allowed entry from 11 AM to 1:30 PM at the centers. Given the time required for biometric verification, candidates were advised to arrive early.
It is noteworthy that over 2 million candidates participated in the NEET UG 2026 exam held on May 3. Following allegations of a question paper leak, the NTA announced the cancellation of the exam on May 12, leading to nationwide protests and the decision to conduct a re-examination.
For the re-examination on June 21, the NTA implemented several new security and monitoring measures to prevent any irregularities.
