Gujarat Launches Enrollment Drive for Over 2.8 Million Children

Gandhinagar, June 23: Gujarat is set to kick off a three-day ‘Shala Praveshotsav’ (School Enrollment Festival) and ‘Kanya Kelvani’ campaign starting June 23. The initiative aims to enroll approximately 2.85 million children across the state. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate this statewide campaign at the B.N. High School in Vadnagar.

This school was chosen as the launch site for the 24th edition of the campaign, which was originally initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister in 2003 to promote school enrollment and enhance participation in education.

In Vadnagar, Patel will facilitate the enrollment of 389 students, including two children at an Anganwadi center, from Balvatika to Class 11.

According to the state government, the enrollment drive will run from June 23 to June 25 and will cover 38,400 schools throughout Gujarat.

Children over five and under six years old will be admitted to Balvatika, while those over six and under seven will be enrolled in Class 1 as of June 1.

The program will also facilitate the transition of students to higher levels of schooling. Students who have completed Class 8 will be admitted to Class 9, while those who have passed Class 10 will be enrolled in Class 11.

Described as an ongoing educational outreach initiative, this campaign marks its 24th year.

During the three-day event, senior government representatives, including the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, cabinet ministers, and officials from IAS, IPS, and IFS services, will visit schools across the state to participate in enrollment activities.

Approximately 465 dignitaries and officials are expected to engage in the program by visiting schools and assisting with admissions.

During their visits, officials will also review the academic performance, physical infrastructure, and other achievements of schools in consultation with School Management Committees (SMCs).

The state government stated that the enrollment festival will be conducted with the participation of SMCs, parents, and residents, emphasizing the community’s central role in encouraging children to enter and continue formal education.
