Lucknow, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Om Prakash Rajbhar, the Panchayati Raj Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has responded sharply to the opposition’s recent criticisms of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). Speaking in Lucknow, he specifically targeted the Congress party, backing a statement made by Alok Kumar of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
Rajbhar expressed his views, stating, “They are merely looking for excuses. They should remember that in 2019, the BJP won 303 seats. After Gyanesh Kumar’s arrival, that number dropped to 240. If there was cheating, wouldn’t the number increase instead of decrease?” He further highlighted that prior to 2014, the Congress had complete control over the electoral system, which he claims enabled them to manipulate the election process to make Narendra Modi Prime Minister. He pointed out that from 2012 to 2017, Akhilesh Yadav held sway over the system, allegedly facilitating Yogi Adityanath’s rise to Chief Minister.
Rajbhar urged the opposition to reflect on their own failures, noting that the public, dissatisfied with the previous governance, elected Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath. He remarked on the Congress party’s long-standing struggle in West Bengal, stating, “The Congress has not made a significant impact in Bengal since 1978. They have been losing elections for 40 years; where is Gyanesh Kumar in that?”
He accused the opposition of preemptively creating a narrative of defeat ahead of the 2027 elections, suggesting they would claim vote theft. “The Election Commission is independent and operates on its own terms,” he asserted.
On the topic of Muslim leadership, Rajbhar commented on statements from Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that Muslims should consider their own leaders. He questioned the absence of minority representation in Yadav’s recent political maneuvers, implying a shift towards family and wealth over community representation.
Responding to Asaduddin Owaisi’s comments on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Rajbhar remarked, “These individuals are merely in the business of opposition. When the NRC and CAA were introduced, they claimed it was a law to expel Muslims from the country. Three years have passed, and not a single Muslim has been expelled.”
Rajbhar reiterated that it is the people who elect representatives, not the Election Commission. He defended the integrity of the electoral process, stating, “The Election Commission facilitates the elections, but it is the public’s vote that determines the outcome.”
Addressing allegations made by Mamata Banerjee against the Election Commission, Rajbhar countered, “Mamata is mistaken. She became Chief Minister through EVMs, which were deemed reliable at that time. Now that she has lost, she claims the system is flawed.” He concluded confidently, predicting that Yogi Adityanath would secure a two-thirds majority in the upcoming elections in 2027.
