Mayawati Critiques Akhilesh Yadav Over Rajya Sabha Nominations, Accuses SP of Deception

Lucknow, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has launched a pointed attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP), accusing it of engaging in nepotism and money-driven politics. In her remarks, she asserted that while the SP claims to be a party for the socially disadvantaged and advocates for the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), its actions tell a different story.

Mayawati raised concerns regarding the SP’s recent nominations for the Rajya Sabha, specifically targeting candidates Professor Ramgopal Yadav and Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani. The SP submitted their nominations on September 30.

On Friday, she took to social media platform X, expressing that the BSP does not grant tickets to family members, relatives, or wealthy industrialists in any election, regardless of its scale. Instead, she emphasized that her party selects candidates from the underprivileged, middle class, and dedicated Ambedkarite workers.

She stated, “The BSP does not, in any election, give tickets to family members, relatives, or wealthy capitalists as the SP does. Our candidates are hardworking individuals from the marginalized sections of society, ensuring our politics is free from nepotism and corruption, unlike the SP, which continues to masquerade as a socialist party.”

Mayawati pointed out that the SP’s choice of Ramgopal Yadav, a close relative of the party leader, for the Rajya Sabha once again exemplifies its reliance on familial connections. She also noted that Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, another candidate, is linked to a prominent industrial family. Public opinion suggests that the SP may field a third candidate merely for “face-saving” or to ensure a loss.

She warned voters not to be misled by the SP’s portrayal of itself as a party of the people, stating that while it seeks votes under the PDA banner, it predominantly appoints family members and wealthy elites to key positions.

This pattern of behavior is not new, according to Mayawati. She urged the underprivileged and marginalized communities, particularly in the lead-up to the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, to recognize that their interests are best served by the BSP, while the SP’s promises are merely illusions.
