Chandigarh, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Political tensions have intensified in Chandigarh following the appointment of Paragat Singh as the new president of the Punjab Congress. Leaders from both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have voiced their opinions on this development.
In a statement, BJP leader Tikshan Sud remarked, “No matter who Congress brings in, their internal conflicts will not cease, and they will not be able to form a government. The people of Punjab are aware of Congress’s double standards. They remember the false promises and the corruption that occurred during previous Congress administrations. The people will not forgive Congress now. Paragat Singh is a good man who has brought honor to Punjab.”
AAP MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa also commented, “While it is important to welcome any new party president, there is nothing wrong in that. Politics has many facets. I congratulate them on the new appointment, but Congress has no future.”
Jatinder Pal Malhotra, president of the Chandigarh BJP unit, expressed skepticism about Congress’s intentions. He stated, “I believe their goal is to gain power, not to serve the public. Look at where they have led the country in 60 years. Their motive seems to be to criticize India abroad. Rahul Gandhi, for instance, goes outside the country to claim nothing is happening in India, while the entire world is looking towards us.”
In response to the upcoming Punjab elections, Paragat Singh stated, “Our team is very strong. We move forward as a unit. We have plenty of time, while other teams won’t last even 15-20 minutes.”
Prior to his appointment, Singh visited Gurudwara Sri Bangla Sahib to express gratitude. He shared on social media, “Nanak naam chardhi kala, tere bhaane sarbat da bhala. I thanked Guru Sahib for the responsibility of leading the Punjab Congress and prayed for the welfare of all.”
He further expressed his commitment to fulfilling his duties with sincerity, humility, and a spirit of service to Punjab.
