On Lal Bahadur Shastris birth anniversary, PM Modi honors his legacy of simplicity and dedication to the nation.

New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, celebrated on October 2. Shastri, known for his impactful slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” significantly uplifted the respect for farmers and soldiers in India. Modi took to social media platform X to express his admiration, stating, “Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji’s simplicity and dedication to the nation remain incredibly inspiring.”
In his message, Modi highlighted Shastri’s contributions, saying, “A Lal Bahadur Shastri came along, who gave the mantra ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,’ and the farmers of India stood up.” The Prime Minister emphasized the deep respect that Shastri commands among Indians, noting that his humble demeanor was matched by a resolute determination akin to a rock.
Shastri served as Prime Minister from June 9, 1964, until January 11, 1966. Born on October 2, 1904, in Mughal Sarai, Uttar Pradesh, he came from a modest Brahmin family. His unwavering involvement in the freedom struggle began in 1921 when he joined the Congress party and actively participated in Gandhi’s Salt March in 1930.
Shastri spent nine years in British jails, where he enriched his thoughts by reading works of Western philosophers, revolutionaries, and social reformers. Upon his release, he led several movements, driven by a sense of patriotism that prioritized public service over personal ambition.
He became India’s second Prime Minister following Jawaharlal Nehru’s death. Despite a brief 19-month term, Shastri faced significant challenges, including the 1965 war with Pakistan. During this tumultuous period, he rallied the nation with his famous call to action, which continues to resonate today.
