Samajwadi Party Changes Candidates Ahead of UP Legislative Council Elections

The Samajwadi Party has replaced two candidates for the upcoming UP Legislative Council elections, aiming for a stronger performance.

Lucknow, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Samajwadi Party (SP) has made a significant change to its candidate lineup ahead of the Legislative Council elections in Uttar Pradesh. Party president Akhilesh Yadav announced the replacement of two candidates for the teacher constituencies. Dr. Sanjayan Tripathi will now contest from the Gorakhpur-Faizabad seat, taking over from Kamlesh Yadav. Meanwhile, Dr. Akash Agarwal, a former MLC, will replace Prakash Chandra Gupta in the Agra constituency.

Akhilesh Yadav stated that these changes were made with the consensus of relevant party leaders. He expressed gratitude to the outgoing candidates, Kamlesh Yadav and Prakash Chandra Gupta, acknowledging their cooperation with the party’s decisions. Yadav assured that both would receive due respect in the future.

Voting for these and nine other seats in the Legislative Council’s teacher and graduate constituencies is scheduled for October 23, with the counting of votes set for October 27. Yadav emphasized that the inclusion of experienced leaders like Tripathi and Agarwal would strengthen the party’s position in the elections. He urged party workers to rally behind the new candidates and ensure the victory of all SP nominees.

Dr. Tripathi’s candidacy is particularly noteworthy as he was previously seeking a ticket from the BJP but distanced himself from the party after they nominated Dhruv Tripathi. He announced his intention to contest as an independent before joining the SP. Dr. Agarwal has served as an independent MLC and his experience is expected to be beneficial in the upcoming elections.

During the announcement, Akhilesh Yadav also criticized the BJP government, alleging misconduct in voter registrations and questioning the administration and police system over the past decade. He highlighted issues such as a recent incident in Gorakhpur where an individual was reportedly targeted under the Goonda Act for sharing a video of waterlogged streets.

Yadav pointed out the deteriorating law and order situation, referencing a recent murder of a wrestler in Sant Kabir Nagar, and cited Supreme Court comments regarding police inefficiency in the state.

Education and examination systems are set to be key issues in the upcoming elections. Yadav accused the BJP government of increasing paper leak incidents and discrimination in government job opportunities. He stated that the SP would focus on issues affecting teachers, including ad-hoc teachers and the old pension scheme, in its manifesto.

Additionally, he raised concerns about the state’s healthcare system, promising free treatment for the poor if the SP returns to power. Yadav emphasized the importance of the party’s coalition of backward classes, Dalits, and minorities, asserting that they would defeat the BJP in the next elections.

He also addressed the concerns of the youth regarding employment, noting the rising unemployment rates. Yadav recalled that during the SP’s previous government, laptops were distributed to young people, who are now using technology to question the current administration. He affirmed that the new generation seeks development and that the SP will bring these issues to the forefront in their campaign.
