Chennai, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Emergency response teams were activated at Chennai Airport on Monday following a technical malfunction in a Malaysia Airlines flight. The aircraft, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah, was diverted to Chennai due to an engine issue.
According to airport officials, the Boeing aircraft, identified as flight MH156, was carrying 186 passengers when it safely landed at Chennai Airport. A full emergency was declared after a problem was reported in engine number two.
The plane was brought down safely, and airline technical teams, along with relevant staff, began investigating the nature and severity of the issue. An airport spokesperson stated, “The airline and technical teams are looking into the aircraft and the technical problem.”
Despite the emergency declaration, normal operations at the airport continued without interruption. The airline’s technical staff are expected to complete their investigation before making any decisions regarding the flight’s further journey.
In a related incident, an Air India Express flight from Tiruchirappalli to Singapore was also diverted to Chennai International Airport due to a technical issue. In light of these situations, a local standby was declared at Chennai Airport, ensuring all necessary emergency response measures were in place for the safe arrival of the aircraft.
The diverted flight landed safely and taxied off the runway without incident. Following the local standby declaration, operational and emergency response agencies at the airport were put on alert and prepared for any necessary actions.
An airport official confirmed that all operations remained normal while the airline’s engineering and technical teams investigated the reported issues.
