Tragedy in Satya Niketan: Families Donate Corneas Amid Grief

New Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : A devastating building collapse in the Satya Niketan area of New Delhi has left the community in shock. As of now, the tragedy has claimed the lives of seven individuals, including five students and two laborers, all of whom were residing in the area for their studies. The deceased were taken to the JPN Apex Trauma Center at AIIMS for treatment.

According to AIIMS, twelve injured victims were admitted to the trauma center. Six of these individuals were pronounced dead upon arrival, while one succumbed to injuries during treatment. Currently, four patients remain hospitalized; three are in stable condition, while one is critically ill. Notably, a 30-year-old patient named Krishna was discharged just days ago.

In the midst of this sorrowful time, two families have set a remarkable example of humanity. AIIMS has reported that the relatives of two of the deceased have chosen to donate their corneas. This compassionate decision will enable the corneas to benefit patients in need, potentially restoring their vision.

Despite their loss, the families’ choice serves as an inspiring message to society. The management at AIIMS has also commended this noble act.

The list of hospitalized individuals includes 49-year-old laborer Asgar Ali and three 19-year-old students: Neeraj Bawa, Aditya Kumar, and Nitish Chhib. The deceased have been identified as 19-year-old students Abhishek Kumar, Arpit Jaj, and Akshat Singh, 20-year-old Yuvraj Soni, 17-year-old Pawan Kumar, and laborers Surendra Singh and Param Lal Kori, aged 56 and 30, respectively.

It is important to note that the building in Satya Niketan was quite old and was reportedly being used for illegal PG accommodations. In connection with this incident, the Delhi police have arrested the building’s owner, Hariram Gupta, along with his wife, Urmila Gupta, and their son, Mahesh Gupta.
