New Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) expressed deep sorrow on September 7, 2026, following a tragic incident in Satya Niketan, New Delhi. A press conference was held where national general secretary Dr. Veerendra Singh, Delhi unit minister Sarthak Sharma, national minister Kshama Sharma, and Delhi University Student Union president Aryan Man were present.
ABVP members reported that their workers arrived at the scene immediately after the incident to assist in relief and rescue operations alongside the authorities. The organization extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased students and wished for the swift recovery of the injured.
In response to the incident, ABVP activists staged a protest outside the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) office, demanding accountability from the administration. They called for the resignation of the MCD commissioner and the filing of criminal charges against all involved. During the protest, clashes with police resulted in injuries to several activists, including DU student union president Aryan Man, and over 50 were arrested.
The ABVP emphasized the need for a high-level, impartial investigation into the incident. They demanded clarity on who authorized the excavation of the basement and the issuance of permits for the operation of the premises. The organization has previously raised concerns about the safety and regulation of illegally operated student accommodations in Delhi, highlighting the administration’s neglect.
ABVP members insisted that disciplinary and legal actions should be taken against any officials found culpable, and they called for the immediate resignation of the MCD commissioner. They also urged for a comprehensive structural and fire safety audit of all private hostels and PG accommodations in Delhi, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Furthermore, they demanded immediate safe housing for affected students, proper medical treatment for the injured, and adequate compensation for the families of deceased students. The ABVP called for concrete measures to increase the number of safe and adequate hostels in educational institutions across Delhi.
Dr. Veerendra Singh Solanki, national general secretary of ABVP, stated, “The incident in Satya Niketan is extremely tragic and has caused irreparable pain to many families. While our workers are engaged in relief efforts, accountability must also be ensured. It is essential to clarify how the accident occurred and why it was not prevented in time.”
He questioned who was responsible for halting any illegal or hazardous construction and on what basis permission was granted for student housing. The ABVP stressed that the investigation must go beyond mere formality, demanding strict action against those found guilty without any pressure.
Dr. Solanki reiterated that the ABVP will not tolerate negligence regarding student safety. The organization has been actively providing assistance since the incident and continues to advocate for administrative accountability in South Campus. They vowed to persist in their movement until appropriate actions are taken.
