New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : The government announced on September 9 that the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) has successfully facilitated the recovery of over ₹105 crore for consumers through swift resolution of complaints over the past 15 months. According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, from April 25, 2025, to July 31, 2026, the NCH addressed 166,189 refund-related grievances, offering financial relief to consumers across multiple sectors.
An official statement from the ministry indicated that the majority of complaints originated from the e-commerce sector. During this timeframe, the NCH resolved 100,466 e-commerce complaints, resulting in refunds exceeding ₹74 crore. The travel and tourism sector followed, with consumers receiving over ₹10 crore in refunds.
Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi emphasized the NCH’s pivotal role in resolving complaints before judicial processes commence. He noted that this system not only strengthens consumer protection but also provides quick relief to individuals.
The NCH operates through a convergence-based mechanism, digitally transmitting consumer grievances to the relevant companies. Continuous monitoring of complaints ensures timely resolutions, and feedback is collected from consumers.
The government highlighted that the complaints received by the NCH are not confined to metropolitan areas; a significant number of consumers from remote regions are also utilizing this platform. This underscores the NCH’s emergence as an effective nationwide consumer grievance redressal system.
The ministry shared several illustrative cases. In one instance, a consumer in Bengaluru ordered a mobile phone for ₹47,490, with a delivery date set for August 22, 2026. After repeated delays, the consumer contacted the NCH, which intervened, resulting in a full refund from the e-commerce company.
In another case, a consumer in Andhra Pradesh received an incorrect product that was incompatible with their device. After filing a complaint with the NCH, the relevant e-commerce platform issued a refund.
Additionally, a consumer in Udalguri district, Assam, reported not receiving a refund of ₹5,000 after canceling a booking for a two-wheeler. Following a complaint lodged with the NCH on May 21, 2026, the dealer refunded the entire amount to the consumer’s account after the helpline’s intervention.
