Indore, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Tensions flared in Indore on September 9 as a demolition drive in the South Toda area sparked protests from local residents. The Indore Municipal Corporation had sent a large team to remove alleged illegal constructions, but their efforts were met with resistance.
As the situation escalated, some individuals reportedly pushed Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Dinesh Agarwal while he was attempting to control the crowd, causing him to lose his balance and fall. In response, police detained six individuals, including the alleged assailants.
The demolition operation involved over 100 municipal employees, three excavators, and six JCB machines. To maintain law and order, more than 80 police officers were deployed to the area.
According to authorities, a significant number of locals gathered to protest the demolition, which prompted police to intervene and clear the area for the municipal team to continue their work.
During the altercation, some youths pushed Agarwal from behind, leading to further detentions. Agarwal confirmed the arrests, stating, “Six individuals have been detained during the demolition process. Legal action will be taken against them.”
Assistant Commissioner of Police Vijay Singh Chaudhary noted that encroachments in the area had been causing traffic disruptions and hindering the movement of people. He emphasized the necessity of the demolition, stating, “Illegal constructions in South Toda were causing significant traffic issues. While some protested, the police managed to control the situation and detain those causing disturbances.”
The municipal corporation reported the removal of approximately 50 tin sheds and illegal portions of six houses during the operation. Following the incident, conditions in the area returned to normal, allowing the demolition efforts to proceed under police protection.
