Nandini Sharma Shines in Debut Match, Delivers Second Best Bowling Spell for India in T20s

Chemsford, May 29: The Indian women’s cricket team triumphed over England by 38 runs in the first T20 International match. Nandini Sharma made an impressive debut, taking 3 wickets for just 34 runs in her 4 overs. This performance marks the second-best bowling spell for India in T20 International debuts.

Nandini claimed crucial wickets, including that of Amy Jones, who scored the highest for England with 67 runs, along with Danielle Gibson and Wong. The record for the best bowling spell by an Indian in a T20 International debut is held by Sonia Dabir, who took 3 wickets for 23 runs against England in 2010.

Nandini is only the second Indian bowler to take 3 wickets in her debut match. She has also been selected for the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2026, following her standout performances in the Women’s Premier League, where she took 17 wickets in 10 matches, ranking as the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

In terms of runs, India achieved their second-largest victory margin against England. Batting first, the Indian team scored 188 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues played a stellar innings, scoring 69 runs off 40 balls with 10 fours and a six. Yastika Bhatia also contributed significantly with a solid 54 runs off 40 balls, while Deepti Sharma added 22 runs from 13 balls.

In response, England could only manage 150 runs, losing 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Amy Jones was the top scorer for England with 67 runs, and Heather Knight contributed 21 runs. Alongside Nandini, Kanika Gaud also excelled with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 24 runs in her 4 overs. With this victory, India takes a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series, with the second match scheduled for May 30.
