Imphal, June 5: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has conducted a significant operation at Imphal Airport, seizing approximately 4.09 kilograms of suspected heroin from two passengers.
This action took place during routine security checks at the airport. The two passengers have been handed over to local police for further legal proceedings.
According to reports, CISF personnel were conducting random screenings at the airport’s departure entry gate when they noticed suspicious behavior from one passenger. He repeatedly attempted to evade thorough checks, citing urgency to catch his flight. Observing his actions, security officials decided to conduct a detailed inspection of his luggage.
During the security check, the luggage was scanned using the X-Ray Baggage Inspection System (XBIS), revealing some suspicious items. Upon further examination of both duffel bags, officials discovered cleverly concealed false bottoms. The total haul included 4.09 kilograms of suspected heroin, with one bag containing 2.05 kilograms and the other 2.04 kilograms.
Following the discovery, CISF officials interrogated the passenger, which led to the identification and detention of another individual involved in the operation. Both passengers were subsequently handed over to local police along with the seized drugs due to their alleged involvement.
Authorities stated that an ongoing investigation aims to determine the origin of the seized drugs and their intended destination. The CISF emphasized that this operation exemplifies the vigilance, professional competence, and commitment of personnel deployed in airport security. Timely intervention has thwarted a significant attempt to smuggle prohibited narcotics.
