New Delhi, June 5: The name Vaibhav Suryaanshi is making waves in the cricketing world. The 15-year-old batsman has captivated everyone with his explosive performance in IPL 2026. Former Indian player and selector Devang Gandhi believes that Vaibhav deserves a spot in the Indian team as a reward for his outstanding display.
In an interview, Gandhi stated, “I think the best way to handle Vaibhav is to reward him with an Indian team cap. Over the past two years, this young batsman has shown remarkable skill. He is taking on some of the top bowlers in the world. Last season, people said it was his first year, but he has continued to impress this season as well, playing all cricketing shots with finesse.”
Gandhi further remarked, “His last two innings were exceptional. He was shifting gears against the Sunrisers.”
The former Indian cricketer emphasized that Vaibhav is doing everything right. He noted, “A batsman who is mature enough to take singles, adapt to the situation, and maintain a strike rate of over 200 has ticked all the boxes for me. One area he can still improve is his fielding, as we haven’t seen much of him in that department during the IPL.”
“For his overall development as a cricketer, I am confident that there should be plans to involve him in more matches for India A, whether in the 50-over format or red-ball cricket. Players of his caliber and talent need proper guidance to prepare them for higher levels, so we can see more of him. Can you imagine him playing Test matches with that authority? Even if it’s not exactly like that, seeing him play Tests would be thrilling. Bowlers would be in a panic, wondering how to stop him.”
He concluded, “I mean, he is absolutely phenomenal. I find it hard to describe a boy of his age. He is dominating all bowlers, whether they are spinners or pacers, and the authority with which he bats is truly impressive.”
