Gandhinagar, June 5: Gujarat police have apprehended 568 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing illegally in the state under ‘Operation Delta Hunt.’ Authorities reported that search and verification operations are ongoing across several districts.
According to the state government, these arrests were made during coordinated operations overseen by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi throughout Gujarat.
As of 8 AM on Friday, the latest figures indicate that those detained include 172 men, 282 women, and 114 children.
The scope of this operation, which began earlier this week, has been steadily increasing. Initially, on June 3, Gujarat police reported the detention of 362 suspected Bangladeshi nationals. This number rose to 501 by June 4 and reached 568 by Friday morning.
Officials are also questioning hundreds of other individuals as part of the verification process. In a statement, Sanghvi emphasized that there will be no compromise on the state’s security and peace.
He stated that similar operations against infiltration and unauthorized settlements will continue in the future.
‘Operation Delta Hunt’ was launched as a coordinated initiative based on intelligence information, involving police units from across Gujarat.
Authorities previously indicated that the operation employs telecom analysis, technical surveillance, human intelligence, and field verification to identify suspected undocumented foreign nationals.
The Gujarat police noted that prior to the commencement of the raids and verification process, intelligence gathering and telecom analysis had created a database of over 6,200 suspicious individuals.
According to police, checkpoints were established at bus stations, highways, and railway stations to prevent suspects from leaving targeted areas during the initial phase of the operation.
Investigators are also probing the alleged networks that have facilitated housing, employment, and documentation for individuals residing illegally in the state.
State officials reported that search operations are ongoing in several districts, with special teams working to confirm the identities of other suspects and investigate locations related to the cases.
The government stated that legal action has been initiated against those detained, and further proceedings will follow according to applicable laws.
