Modi Sets Record as Indias Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister

Bengaluru, June 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi achieved a historic milestone on June 10, 2026, becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in independent India’s history. Former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa congratulated him, calling this moment a significant milestone in India’s democratic journey.

Yediyurappa took to social media platform X to announce that Modi has surpassed Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s record by leading the country for 4,399 consecutive days. He expressed his best wishes for Modi to continue elevating India to new heights in the coming years.

In a detailed letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Yediyurappa emphasized that this achievement is not just a personal record but a reflection of the 75-year journey of the Bharatiya Janata Party and its ideological movement. He noted that the political journey, which began with Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s establishment of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951, has now reached a significant milestone.

Yediyurappa also highlighted the economic progress made during Modi’s tenure. He pointed out that in 2014, India was the 11th largest economy in the world, while today it ranks as the fourth largest. He credited the government for achievements in export growth, foreign direct investment, and improvements in the business environment.

In his letter, he mentioned several welfare schemes initiated by the Prime Minister, including the Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and the UDAN scheme. According to him, these initiatives have played a crucial role in improving the living standards of millions.

Yediyurappa referred to significant political and constitutional decisions made by Modi’s government, such as the abrogation of Article 370 and the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, labeling them as historic events with special significance in the country’s political and social history.

He also noted Modi’s growing global reputation, mentioning various prestigious civilian honors awarded by different countries, India’s G-20 presidency, the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, and the global expansion of UPI, which have strengthened India’s position on the world stage.

In conclusion, Yediyurappa wished for Modi’s good health and long-lasting leadership, stating that the goal of a developed India by 2047 is a national resolve that is guiding the country forward under Modi’s leadership.
