Mamata Banerjee Urges Election Commission to Expedite Investigation into TMC Claims

Kolkata, July 30: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to the Election Commission, urging a swift conclusion to the investigation regarding claims made against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) by the Ritabrata Banerjee faction.

In her letter, Banerjee stated, “The Commission had granted Ritabrata Banerjee time until July 10, but he failed to respond. On July 10, he requested an additional 15 days to reply, which the Commission approved, extending the deadline to July 25.”

She further noted, “As of July 25, we have not been informed whether Ritabrata Banerjee submitted his response. If he did, we have not received a copy. Therefore, it can be assumed that no response was provided. Despite two extensions, there has been no reply, leading us to conclude that all points and statements mentioned in our letter dated July 6, 2026, are accepted, and they have no counterarguments.”

Referencing previous correspondence, Banerjee emphasized, “There is no room for them to respond regarding our July 6 letter. In summary, they cannot create any new issues beyond the letters they wrote on June 22, as mentioned in your letter dated July 2.”

She expressed concern, stating, “Due to your extension, Ritabrata Banerjee and others may attempt to fabricate false evidence to strengthen their case, as their allegations lack substance, which we have categorically denied. There should be an equal opportunity for both sides to address their complaints (which we submitted to the Commission on July 6) and consider our arguments.”

Banerjee requested that granting further time after July 25 would be inappropriate. She cautioned that this matter could have serious political repercussions in West Bengal and urged the Commission to complete the investigation promptly without granting additional time, as justice relies on trust.
