Beijing, July 30: The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition on Wednesday regarding the U.S. Department of Defense’s decision to add several Chinese research institutions to its sanctions list.
On July 23, the U.S. updated its list of foreign research institutions involved in alleged suspicious activities, which now includes 1,286 entities, among them some from China.
The spokesperson stated that the U.S. consistently exaggerates the concept of national security. This approach deliberately creates discriminatory barriers, politicizes, militarizes, and mechanizes scientific and technological cooperation. Such actions disrupt the scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between China and the U.S., contradicting the global trends of innovation and collaboration.
Furthermore, the spokesperson urged the U.S. to cease labeling Chinese research institutions and to promptly rectify its wrongful actions. China demands fair, just, and non-discriminatory treatment for its research institutions. The country will take necessary measures to protect the legitimate and lawful interests of these institutions to ensure normal scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation.
