Nagpur, July 30: Maharashtra’s Revenue Minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, announced on Wednesday the elimination of the registration fee for documents related to the division of agricultural land among relatives. This move is part of a broader initiative by the revenue department to implement several reforms.
Minister Bawankule stated that the state government has issued a notification under Section 85 of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966, which stipulates that no registration fee will be charged for documents pertaining to the division of agricultural land among co-owners or family members.
This decision aims to simplify the process of family land division, making it more transparent and financially accessible, thereby providing significant economic relief to farming families.
Previously, a fee of ₹200 was imposed on documents related to the division of agricultural land (gift deeds) among family members, a decision made in 2016.
The minister emphasized that waiving this ₹200 fee will greatly benefit small and impoverished farmers. He noted that this initiative is part of the Maharashtra Revenue Department’s larger effort to streamline land-related processes, reduce delays, and alleviate financial burdens for farming families.
Additionally, Minister Bawankule mentioned that last week he took a firm stance in favor of farmers against obstacles posed by traditional pathways or water flow disruptions on agricultural land in rural areas.
The Revenue Department has also made significant amendments to the Mamlatdar Courts Act. Under the new regulations, hearing notices will now be sent directly via email. Furthermore, if a tehsildar’s (mamlatdar’s) orders are not complied with, affected farmers will be entitled to free police protection.
A circular regarding these changes has also been issued.
