Millions Gather in Puri for the Grand Rath Yatra Amidst Blessings and Rain

Puri, July 16: A wave of excitement enveloped Puri, Odisha, as millions of devotees gathered for the world-renowned Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. Despite intermittent rain on the day of the festival, the faith and enthusiasm of the devotees remained unshaken. Countless worshippers assembled to seek blessings from Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.

Devotees expressed that the rain during the Rath Yatra is not a hindrance but a blessing from the divine. They noted that rain on this day is not uncommon, and they come prepared for it. The primary joy for them lies in witnessing the Lord and participating in the sacred act of pulling the chariot.

Sharat Mohanty, a servitor at the Jagannath Temple, shared that all essential religious rituals within the temple were being conducted swiftly. He mentioned that it was unprecedented for all temple protocols to be completed so quickly. It seemed as if Lord Jagannath himself wished to emerge from the temple and bless the millions of devotees.

Following the Mangala Aarti, the bathing ceremony and other rituals were completed. The Lord was adorned in special attire, and offerings of Khichdi were made as part of the Rajbhog. Subsequently, the process of Ratharohan began, which involves the sequential procession of the deities from the temple. First, the Sudarshan Chakra, followed by Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and finally, Lord Jagannath took their places on the chariot.

Despite the rain, millions awaited the arrival of the Lord at Badadanda. As soon as the Lord emerged, the atmosphere resonated with the sounds of bells, drums, and other traditional instruments. Devotees eagerly anticipated the divine moment when the Mahaprabhu would bless everyone from the chariot.

One female devotee shared her lifelong connection to the Rath Yatra, stating that she has been fortunate to witness it since childhood. She recalled her desire to pull the chariot, a wish that has been fulfilled every year since her tenth grade, thanks to divine grace.

She expressed her prayer that Lord Jagannath keeps her close to the Rath Yatra until her last breath. For her, this event is not merely a festival but a divine union between the Lord and his devotees.

Another devotee from Mumbai emphasized that their love and faith in Lord Jagannath brought them to Puri. Many first-time visitors reported experiencing immense joy and spiritual peace. Some families, visiting for the second time, mentioned that their attendance was unplanned but made possible by divine grace.

Artists performing Odissi dance also shared their sentiments. One artist described serving in front of Lord Jagannath as the greatest blessing of their life. They noted that dancing in the presence of the Lord is an invaluable experience, one that brings unparalleled joy.

Another performer remarked that despite the heavy rain, it felt insignificant compared to the divine presence of Lord Jagannath. They are part of the traditional Devadasi dance lineage and wore traditional attire to serve the Lord.

Continuous rainfall caused some areas of Puri to experience waterlogging, but the administration worked diligently to maintain order. Security personnel, volunteers, and officials were committed to ensuring the safety and convenience of the devotees.
