New Delhi, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in New Delhi are on high alert ahead of a planned demonstration by the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) scheduled for October 10 at Jantar Mantar. The central government, along with the Delhi police, has taken extensive measures to ensure security during the event.
The Union Home Secretary has sent a letter to the Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories, urging them to exercise maximum vigilance. The letter emphasizes the need for heightened police presence in border areas to monitor any potential disturbances and to keep a close watch on any unruly elements.
In the correspondence, the Home Secretary referenced a 2018 Supreme Court ruling, highlighting concerns of possible attempts to disrupt public order based on credible intelligence. States have been advised to maintain continuous coordination with the Delhi police.
In response to the planned protest, the Delhi police have developed a comprehensive security strategy. According to police sources, following the announcement of the CJP’s march to Jantar Mantar, all units have been instructed to detain any individuals attempting to demonstrate.
Units of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been ordered not to carry weapons during the deployment. Relevant directives have been issued to the concerned directorates. However, unlike previous protests organized by the India Alliance, officers will be permitted to carry batons during their duties this time.
Delhi police have also instructed their personnel to avoid any verbal confrontations with protesters. Sources indicate that there are concerns that some individuals may attempt to portray the police negatively by recording interactions and sharing them on social media.
Detained protesters will be held at six designated temporary detention centers, including Chhatrasal Stadium, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Yamuna Sports Complex, Surajmal Stadium, Daulatpur Community Center, and Pandrawal Community Center.
To bolster security, additional female police officers have been dispatched from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Central Delhi will see the implementation of facial recognition systems, extra CCTV cameras, surveillance teams on rooftops, and drone monitoring.
In total, over 35,000 personnel from the Delhi police and paramilitary forces will be deployed for the protest on Saturday. The demonstrators are expected to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with participation anticipated from various student organizations and political groups. The Delhi police have made it clear that no permission has been granted for this protest.
